Wood Stove

return to Systems

Below are step-by-step instructions for building a fire in the wood stove.

First put a flat piece of kindling wood in the stove near the front.  Get a fire-starter chunk (provided), put it on the kindling wood, and light both ends.

Then position some thick pieces of kindling wood around the burning fire starter block. And put a regular piece of wood to the back.

Then place some regular pieces of wood around and on top of the fire starter block.  These regular pieces of wood should always be straight front to back, not sideways.  Sideways pieces can easily just tumble out of the firebox onto the floor when you open the door.  If you run across any pieces that are too long to fit in, front to back, just set them aside for use outside in the campfire.

Then fill up the fire box with regular wood - always ends pointed out.

Finally close the door and relax.   Within a half hour or so you will have a good burning fire that will make the cabin toasty warm.  If it gets too warm in the cabin you can open the front door a little, or a lot, to let out some warm air and let in some cold air.

Be sure to utilize the heavy fire mittens when opening the door to load more wood.  The fire box is VERY hot.  And use the metal angle and shovel to load and position the wood.
