Ventilation

How to step up ventilation for cool comfort.

The cabin is built to accommodate natural ventilation.  In the hotter months it is essential to ventilate the cabin properly in order to stay comfortable.  Heat rises, and the goal is to let hot air flow naturally out of the cabin.

There are four windows to keep open in order to keep the cabin cool:

The two upstairs windows.  These are double hung windows, so be sure to open the upper part.  Note how a fan can be hung on the curtain bar above the window to blow hot air out in the day and cool air in at night.

Next is the high window above the refrigerator.  This one is vitally important in order to export the heat from cooking and the heat that is penetrating from the metal roof above.  This window is held closed by magnets.  Simply pull outward on the copper wire and then hook the loop over the hook on the wall.

Finally is the window above the back door.  It is a conventional crank-open window:

And, of course, all of the other windows and the front door should be open as well.

Usually it gets quite cool at night out there even in the hot summer months.  Cool air starts flowing down the creek valley around dark, and by midnight it can even be sort of cold.

Personal Fans:

There are four portable personal usb-recharable fans.  They really make a difference when it's hot out.
